Martha Johnston of Crosh,Co Tyrone
« on: Saturday 22 November 25 09:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
Found this will for Martha Johnston of Crosh, died 5 Jan 1866.
Administration confirmed 12 October 1866 by Margaret Cluff, widow of Magheraglass,Cookstown, daughter. Margaret was wife oj William Cluff who died 1850,Margaret died 1898. I am looking for wedding of William and Margaret ,possibly around 1835 -1839 as I have first child Matilda born 1839.There were at least 5 other children.
Thanks for reading and any pointers would be appreciatd

Think that is a bit muddled?

Letters of Administration of the personal estate of Martha Johnston late of Crosh in the County of Tyrone Widow deceased who died 5 January 1866 at same place were granted at Londonderry to Margaret Cluff of Magheraglass (Kildress Cookstown) in said County Widow the Daughter and one of the next of kin of said deceased.

Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages began 1845 so for earlier ones you need to search for church records (not all survive for that period and of those that do not all are online).

I have just discovered that two Crosh area,s exist inTyrone.
District of Cappagh and district of Ardstraw
According to Griffiths Valuation The Johnston family appear in both.
Since William Cluff lived in Magheraglass, possibly the Cappagh Crosh would be the mast likely home of Martha Johnston.just a few miles apart.

Yes, there are two townlands in Co. Tyrone called Crosh-

https://www.townlands.ie/tyrone/strabane-upper/cappagh-upper-strabane-portion/killyclogher/crosh/

Here's Magheraglass townland- much nearer to the Ardstraw Crosh than the Strabane one-

If you had the death certificate of Martha Johnston (1866 so not available on Irish Genealogy yet) it would show exactly where her death took place. However this is what GRONI's index says-
D/1866/212/1025/2/297   Martha Johnston   5th January 1866   70  Omagh (Omagh District No.2)

Londonderry Sentinel, 12 Dec.1856: Married Friday last, in the First Presbyterian Church, Strabane, by the Rev. Dr. Goudy, MR. WILLIAM JOHN JOHNSTON, of Crosh, near Newtownstewart, to JANE, daughter of MR. SAMUEL HUSTON, of Drumnabuoy, near Strabane.

Death registration of Margaret Cuff gives her age as 80 (so born c1818):

Just to correct this bit of original post-
Found this will for Martha Johnston of Crosh, died 5 Jan 1866.
Administration confirmed 12 October 1866 by Margaret Cluff, widow of ...

Administration mean there was no Will.

Margaret Cluff, sister  and John brother are among the cash beneficery,s,and David brother inheritated the farms William another brother is dead,so his son also William is a cash beneficery. Will is available on PRONI/Wills. Question now is what churches are in the Crosh area ?
