Death of Charles Tempest
« on: Friday 21 November 25 15:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm trying to find the death of Charles Tempest   this is what I know about him so far;
Born 2 Feb 1815 in Shoreditch
Baptized 16 June 1822 St Gregory by St Pauls City of London
Marriage 12 Feb 1843 St John's Bethnal Green to Susannah Gardner Charles occupation a packing case maker
1851 Census Wellington St Shoreditch
1871 census  Shap Street St Leonards Shoreditch Lodger with the Woodhouse family a packing case maker
1881 census Shap Street living alone no Susannah & he says he's single. Susannah seems to have split up with him she dies in 1899 & no mention of him on her death certificate.

I can't find Charles on 1891 census so probably he could have died between 1881 & 91

Any help much appreciated

He died of senile decay in  St Leonard's Infirmary Shoreditch. Admitted from
St Leonards Union.
No more details about him.
Definitely something to think about,  but I guess the death certificate wont help much.

So many people dying there about the same time,  it's terrible to think about.

Many thanks for all the replies.
I think his death is the 1882 one  I will send for the death certificate and see if that gives any more clues.

Many thanks again

His death is recorded in the "Deaths in the Infirmary" St Leonard's, Shoreditch.

I would have looked at digital record but sods law it's only available as a pdf. I would say it's the correct Tempest with incorrect christian name

It's got a nice ring to it, Thomas Tempest! I agree it could just be a mistake by the Shoreditch officials.
There are some more records of the infirmary hidden away on ancestry, the answer may be in those perhaps :-\
