Whilst I may have qualifications in map analysis, Price Street, Ancoats, Manchester is completely eluding me. According to the police, it looks like the husband of my 2C3R was living at No.46 in 1931 before he hanged himself in a warehouse on Tib Street.

Price Street is long gone and "good old Google" suggests it was somewhere near Mitchell Street but can I find it! Mitchell Street, yes, but there's no Price Street in the vicinity. Please can somebody put me out of my misery?

(The police report refers to him living with his "wife" but I believe it maay have been "the other woman" and I'd like to find out where and who.)

Here it is. A different Mitchell Street I think? (I was also mystified at first.)

Added:
In newspapers, apart from one mention from 1969 of the Falcon Garage, Price Street, Ancoats (a 1964 Daimler £650) the most recent references end in 1939.

A photo of the area here.

We are looking down Russell Street from Mitchell Street. The sign on the right says Margaret Street so Price Street is crossing Russell Street about 9 doors further down.

Apparently the Falcon Inn was on the corner of Mitchell Street and Price Street, perhaps that is the taller building?

I’ll leave it for you to work out this aspect, as homework.

It looks correct. I've just looked at a 1934 Street Directory and it does appear to run through White and Russell Sts. Rather shorter looking on the Street Directory than the map.

Great, thanks! I found the photographs but everything else I looked at kept taking me back to the other Mitchell Street which has since been re-named “Merrill Street”.

(Price street even runs parallel to the famous joke about having walked down “Every Street” in Manchester!)
