Sorting out the Sarah Partridges
« on: Today at 10:32 »
I have two Sarah Partridges in my tree.
Sarah #1 was baptised on 6 Feb 1785 in Letcombe Basset d/o James Partridge and Elizabeth nee Scribing / Scriving
I have the following siblings for Sarah #1
William 1781, Jane 1787, Elizabeth 1789, Elizabeth #2 1792, Ann 1793, Martha 1798

Sarah #2 was baptised on 17 Oct 1786 in West Ilsley d/o George Partridge and Elizabeth nee Poke. The family must have moved to Letcombe Basset when she was a child because her younger siblings were baptised there and her father died there in 1819.
I have the following siblings for Sarah #2
Martha 1777, Mary 1780, Elizabeth 1783, William 1789, James 1791, Richard 1799

There are two marriages in Letcombe Bassett for Sarah Partridges at the right sort of time.
One marries Charles Pembroke (of LB) on 17 Oct 1805, Lydia Pembroke, Elizabeth Partridge & Wm. Painter.
The other marries William Ackrill (of Uffington) on 19 April 1809, wits John Partridge & Wm Painter

I had the Charles Pembroke marriage down for Sarah #1 as they were first cousins, but he would be second cousin to Sarah #2, so still a possibility.
Witnesses to the two marriages don't really help. Both Sarah's had mothers and sisters called Elizabeth. Neither had a father or a brother called John.

Please can anyone help me to sort out which marriage is for which Sarah?

Hi
The answer to this is John Partridge the witness to the second marriage .
He marries Sarah Newport 16.1.1805 wit William Partridge and Luke Pigott .
Again not very helpful as there are William Partridges in both families.
John was buried Farnborough 20 Nov 1852 born 1783.

If we look for baptisms
John bapt 2 Mar 1783 at Letcombe R s of James and Elizabeth Partridge
John bapt 16 Feb 1782 Farnborough to William and Hannah.

The top one would make he the right age for the burial and the brother of Sarah Partridge who  married William Ackrill of Uffington in 1809.

So Sarah Partridge marrying Charles Pembroke is the daughter of George and Elizabeth
Sarah P marrying William Ackrill is the daughter of James and Elizabeth.

Also  children for Charles and Sarah Pembroke-Mary 1806 ,George 1808 ,Martha 1811,Thomas 1814 ,Elizabeth 1817 ,Elizabeth 1820 .
The 2 boys are after their grandfather's

Hope that's not too much of a disappointment and you have not done too much research on the other couple .

Thank you very much that fits a lot better, now that John Partridge has been found. I saw there was a potential for other children between those I had, but hadn't found one. So Charles Pembroke married his second cousin Sarah Pembroke, and the Ancestry tree I found was right and mine is wrong. The Ancestry tree belonged to a Common Ancestor match and I couldn't find any problems with it, but by my tree our MCRA was a generation further back than she thought. The DNA match makes much more sense now. Next problem is how to correct my tree without messing it up even more. I do it on Family tree maker software and upload as a GEDcom to Ancestry.
