Service record - Missing Information
« on: Wednesday 19 November 25 08:16 GMT (UK) »
I've just received the service record of my late father-in-law from the National Archives and I'm disappointed at how little information there is on it.

He joined the Coldstream Guards in 1934 and served in Palestine after which he served in the Army Reserve in 1938. He rejoined the service in 1939 as a military policeman (Corps of Military Foot Police). He served in Burma, West Africa & Japan. His service number has remained the same throughout his service.

There is absolutely no information regarding his WW2 service (or medals) on the record.J do have the information on his Medal Card. Am I likely to receive more information if I contact the Coldstream Guard archivist? I have read elsewhere that this is highly unlikely.

Many thanks

Singleton, Rossall, Hall, Braithwaite - Marton, LAN
Clegg, Carter, Bowes, Fewster - DUR
Codling, Cook - Ovingham, NBL

If you have a subscription to FindMyPast or your local library has free access to their site, check their collection British Army, Coldstream Guards 1800-1981. This is an index to the material that the Coldstream Guards currently hold about their past members. You can read a bit more about what they may or may not have about your father-in-law here: Coldstream Guards
