I have been looking into Alice Beckett's ,and sister Agnes's forebears. Their father was GEORGE BECKETT  1849-1888 who married Eliza Welsby 1850-1927,both in the 1851 census.

The 1861 census for Beverly St Nicholas,23 Waltham Terrace shows-
GEORGE BECKETT,stepson,11,scholar,b Yorkshire Wilfsholme. Also his brother John,13.Nobody else.
Also in the 1861 census is their sister Ann a house servant in Beswick, their sister Elizabeth a kitchen maid in Beverley.
Brother James died aged 1 in Beverley according to a tree on Family Search but I cannot find this record.

The childrens father was Samuel Beckett 1821-1852,a short life. His wife a Mary Barber born 1822. After Samuels death it would seem that Mary may have abandoned her children as I cannot find any trace of her after 1851.

Would appreciate any further info on Mary Beckett.

For reference. Is this Mary on 1851 census?

Many thanks for the replies Osprey & Ladyhawk,am at reply 37,that is Mary on the 1851 census.
Ref reply 37,the 1861 census--have looked at records of Mark Malam & his wife Elizabeth (nee Arksey) at No 22 and cannot find any connection with a Beckett or Welsby.
The record does clearly show the Malams at No 21 and George & John at No 23,indicating a separate dwelling. On there own !?
Green family ,West Hanningfield and Writtle,Essex, 1700-1900,plus other Essex areas and later dates.Collins,Dobbs,Terry,Betts,Hucknall etc,Nottinghamshire.

For reference: Wilfholme (sic) is a hamlet (551 acres) in Beswick township, Kilnwick juxta Watton parish, East Riding - on the west bank of the River Hull.  It seems to comprise two farms and a pub by the river.  1851-52 survey:

1861 Census: it would seem George and John were stepsons of the head of household, who was not, however, there for the census.  William Robson?

There are a number of mis-spelled or mis-transcribed place-names in Mary Rob(in)son's 1861 record:
Catton, Beswick or Barwick, Leckonfield (now Leconfield).  "Rumbridge" not found.

(Added) At Leckonfield there was also no head of household; Elizabeth is "wife" and Farmer's wife, married.  So where were the menfolk?
