Hi
Very intriguing, mckha.
Of couse it would be nice if Michael didn't die in France in 1916. I think some more WW1 records have come online since that thread, the pension records for example, and more newspapers of course, so we may see.

Thanks for the patience,I'm a little long in the tooth now and computer skills not that great!
The GRO record confirms --"death 20 Aug 1938,100 Manfield Rd,64 yrs,formerly a french polisher,cardiac failure,informant A Green."
My grandfather,a year younger, apparently went "up north" to find his brother but to no avail.
This second posting of the same query has certainly paid off.
Now looking forward to digesting all this information.
Again many many thanks

I think this must be him

No VC.  Only Victory Medal

And this one too.

https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=6523697

He is flexible about his place,of birth.
And it looks as though Agnes went to Australia for a period. (As per first link - enquiries re war bride passage)

Excellent, thanks for sharing the details.
Sorry your grandfather didn't find Harry, but your persistence has paid off, and your faith in Rootschat!
I wonder if Harry and Alice had been living somewhere else, between Little Thurrock and going to Alice's sister in Nottingham.

As we are discovering  from mckha's great finds, things had not been altogether straightfoward in the domestic life of Agnes!
Some fascinating stuff in those documents, well done, mckha.

Colin, so pleased the findings of rootschatter's has proved positive.

SS

added Agnes's marriage image to Andrew Paterson available on Anc* and it appears mother Eliza Beckett was a witness.

I have been looking into Alice Beckett's ,and sister Agnes's forebears.
Their father was GEORGE BECKETT  1849-1888 who married Eliza Welsby 1850-1927,both in the 1851 census.
The 1861 census for Beverly St Nicholas,23 Waltham Terrace shows-
GEORGE BECKETT,stepson,11,scholar,b Yorkshire Wilfsholme. Also his brother John,13.Nobody else.
Also in the 1861 census is their sister Ann a house servant in Beswick, their sister Elizabeth a kitchen maid in Beverley.Brother James died aged 1 in Beverley according to a tree on Family Search but I cannot find this record.
The childrens father was Samuel Beckett 1821-1852,a short life. His wife a Mary Barber born 1822.
After Samuels death it would seem that Mary may have abandoned her children as I cannot find any trace of her after 1851.
Would appreciate any further info on Mary Beckett.
