Do you have any evidence of Harriet's parents Joseph Gadney & Susan Wells, cannot find one

Yes I do, I have her birth certificate. Joseph’s full name was Richard Joseph Binns Gadney.

Harriet Gadney

Mother Susannah Gadney formerly Wells

Father Richard Joseph Binns Gadney

Born at 3pm on February 25th 1842 in Bath Street, St Clements, Oxford

Father’s Occupation: Cordwainer

I can’t find any marriage for them but I do believe they were married. The record must just not have survived. To have that many kids during those times and not be married was rare. If they were married it was probably in 1841 as in the 1841 Census she is listed as Susan Gadney but in an 1840 Newspaper article she is just listed as “Susan Wells”

The newspaper article was May 2nd 1840 and the 1841 Census was taken on June 6th 1841. So I think they got married inbetween those two dates.

It was not rare to be unmarried and have lots of children in those times, some chose not to marry and others already had a spouse elsewhere
