Mary Barnard
« on: Saturday 15 November 25 11:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Mary Barnard  was born on 8 Nov 1913 to Parents Harry stanley Barnard ( 1888-1958) and Mary Jane Marshall (1880-1924)in Derbyshire .

Mary is on the 1921 census with her parents and siblings at Victoria road Sandiacre Derbyshire . Sometime between then and 1939 she moves to  The national Institution for Persons requiring care and control at Whittington Hall Whittington near Chesterfield . She is on the 1939 return as a Patient. There is some information on line about the hall .

But I wonder if its possible to find out why she was admitted. I think she died June 1989. Lived all her life in the home.
Her great niece says she was never mentioned in the family although her parents ( her mother was a sister) would visit at Christmas but kept it quiet from other family members. So she was not forgotten by all.

Any help in finding more information/records would be appreciated .

Thank you .

House & Family History: For much of the 20th century Whittington Hall was a long-term residential care hospital for people with mental illnesses. The hospital closed in 1996 and the House was redeveloped into multiple housing units.

Added:  Has the family considered obtaining a copy of her death certificate, which may help with determining why she was admitted?

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I am so sorry I tried it after I posted and it worked then but it doesn’t know as you say.
I just searched Derbyshire archives, Whittington Hall and there are records mentioned which may be accessed in person. If you couldn’t do that, I was thinking you could just contact them and ask your queries.
