Maybe it's time to look for him abroad? Jabez Britton in Seville, Lilydale, Victoria, Australia isn't him.

In the 1871 Census there was a Godfrey WAITON (I don't think this is the right name), coal miner, born c. 1845, Fritchley, Derbyshire, visiting the family. I wonder if he had anything to do with his disappearance?

I suppose he's this one?

yes PatLac I think you are correct.  I've not found anything for Jabez on the GRO, FreeBMD, Ancestry etc.  Trouble is I don't know where to start to look abroad.  Any hints gratefully received, and thank you for the interesting chase so far.
