death of Jabez Brittain after 1871 census
« on: Friday 14 November 25 13:59 GMT (UK) »
Jabez was baptised at Heage chapel on 25 April 1842.  I cannot trace him after the 1871 census when he and his family lived at the ship inn, st mary's gate, chesterfield.  He married Sarah Elizabeth Barker at the parish church, staveley, derby on 22 june 1863.
Jabez narrowly escaped the Clay Cross pit disaster in 1861 and I wonder if he might have died in another such disaster.
I can't find anything in Ancestry, Familysearch or Findmypast and don't know where else to look, so any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you all.

There are newspaper reports from 1871 concerning a Chesterfield case involving a Jabez Brittain of the Old Ship Inn, St Mary’s Gate. Does that sound like your Jabez?

Added: apologies, you had all of this. I’ll shut up now.

Thank you Carole - so it looks like his death between 1871 and 1881 is 'missing' at the moment - how strange.
