Ivor James NELMES WW1 1918
« on: Thursday 13 November 25 12:13 GMT (UK) »
Local knowledge required.
IVOR JAMES NELMES died on 24 Dec 1918 after serving with the Royal Navy. Aged 20.
Ivor was born in Tredegar to Martha Nelmes. However, he was adopted shortly afterwards by John and Elizabeth Higgs of Markham Crescent , Oakdale (Caerphilly). After being medically discharged from the Royal Navy he returned to that address, where he died.
Ivor's death was due to illness incurred while on active service. He is entitled to War Grave commemoration - if proof of burial can be found.
Does anyone know where Ivor James Nelmes is Buried?
I would be very grateful for any help.

This may give you a small lead to investigate.

The mother Martha Evans death/obituary notice refers to funeral at Courtybella Church. Argoed. (1959)

Ivor James Nelmes may also be buried here ????

Another spelling Cwrt-y-Bella has a cemetery so I think that is what the newspaper was meant to read.

Cwrt-y-Bella Cemetery
Partly overgrown graveyard in grounds of demolished church which stood just to the right of the yew tree (right). Trees have been felled and/or fallen near an entrance.

Could also be known as -

St James & Phillip Churchyard
Also known as Cwrt y Bella graveyard
Caerphilly, Wales

Newport, Gwent, Wales

Entrance to Cwrt-y-Bella cemetery

Cwrt-y-Bella cemetery is now maintained by St David's Church, Penmaen, Oakdale.
Their blue notice board is on the right. Cwrt-y-Bella church was demolished in the
early 1970s.
