Browser problem
« on: Wednesday 12 November 25 13:34 GMT (UK) »
I have recently started using the DuckDuckGo browser. I am now unable to do do any searches on google or edge getting the message "This site can't be reached   ERR_connection unexpectedly_ closed"  Is there a connection between the 2 events and how can it be resolved?
Thank you.

I’m a DuckDuckGo search user, although I haven’t tried the browser. My understanding is that their search engine enables you to avoid using Google search and thus access enhanced privacy. So (1) it seems a little illogical to use Google Search in their browser and (2) perhaps it is somehow blocked, for your protection (from their perspective).

Asking Google  ;D "Does DuckDuckgo browser block Google Search Engine" it replies

Yes, the
DuckDuckGo browser defaults to its own private search engine and actively blocks Google trackers (and others) across the web, preventing them from collecting your data, but it doesn't literally "block" the Google website itself if you type in the URL; it just ensures your activity isn't tied to you, offering privacy features beyond just search. While DuckDuckGo's search engine doesn't use Google's results, its browser stops Google's trackers, making it a strong privacy tool against Google's data collection, as noted in these DuckDuckGo help pages and Quora discussions

Although the Err_connection message is a separate matter it is possibly connected to the blocking of Googles tracking algorithms

ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED error indicates that something is going wrong with the connection from your computer to the website, rather than with the website itself.

Thank you for your replies. I do intend to use DuckDuckgo if possible but I have had problems ordering a football ticket when the club uses an outside agency. Everything is fine until the end when I get the message that the bank is having difficulty verifying my details. The problem is clearly with my PC as I have just bought the ticket over the phone from the club and it was verified with no problem by the agency.

The problem might not be with your computer, but with the website, not being designed to be compatible with DuckDuckGo.  There are sites I use where I have to switch from Firefox to chrome to get them to work.

I've been a long time fan of duck duck go, but only recently started using the browser, as previously they did not let you specify your own choice of location for downloaded files. They recently offered this functionality and I now use it and I'm very pleased with it and I would recommend it wholeheartedly. I've not had any problems like you suggest.
