There is no surname Ryan death in England in 1996 or any other year after 1969 with that birthdate.  How do you know he died in England in 1996?

As you have the birth cert - you presumably have his christian name so can check online for a death

He didn't die in England in 1996 - his mother, Nellie Ryan did under her married name. Yes, I have checked England for a death with the birth date but nothing has shown up.

It seems difficult.
Did he stay with his mother or was he adopted perhaps?

No, he didn't stay with her. She was 17 when she had him in 1940 & was born in a mother and baby home. Adoptions weren't legalised in Ireland until 1952 so I don't know if he was adopted or not. It's possible, like hundreds of other children, that he was illegalled adopted out to America.

Best wishes in your future research it seems very difficult.

Legal adoption was first introduced in Ireland on 1st January 1953, when the 1952 Adoption Act was brought into force.
