Well what can I say, interesting information and forming a pattern. I have all the information on my tree on Tribalpages. It certainly looks like the marriage ended after 1871, both saying they were widowed. Wonder where Elizabeth was in 1881? another puzzle.
Thank you for all the help you have done

I think this is William Trott’s burial on 17 Jan 1908 Islington  on deceased online
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01u33/
Full register details £2.50
Grave details and 13 other burials £1.50
Burial register scan £2.50

Helina have just found this, something to consider

There is another William J C Trott occ carpenter journeyman born c1844 living in Torrington in 1871 with wife ANN and children and in 1881 he’s with his wife MARIA in Islington

His full name William John Curtice Trott he married 1879 Bethnal Green a
Maria Elizabeth Marchant, he's a widower occ joiner res. 17 Marten Road

I added a snippet of the address for William C Trott, Carpenter at reply 15 (apart from the number the address looks the same as on m/c)  :-\

Might he be the William C Trott, Carpenter in the Islington workhouse?

Ladyhawk, So if you are correct which I think you are William John Curtis Trott is not my William. I have looked on the GRO site and William John was born in 1843, Mother's surname is Curtice.
So back to the drawing board.
Thank you for your help Ladyhawk

Rang a bell re. an earlier search for "Trott carpenter" - discounted.
