Occupations help please
« on: Monday 10 November 25 10:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi, i have this 1841 census record for William Greenwood and family (of Todmorden, Yorkshire).
What I can't (and the transcriber hasn't) work out is the occupations of him and his son Thomas. Any suggestions welcome.
I've  included some rows below to help with how this person's handwriting works.
Many thanks
HAY - Aberdeen, Shetland, etc.
LEE - Todmorden, etc.
BELSHAW - Farnworth, Bolton, Wigan, Manchester, Todmorden, etc.
ALLINSON - Pontefract, Leeds, etc.
UPWARD - Isle of Wight

It looks like Jonier to me, in both cases.
Joiner? His son's occupation is followed by Ap[prentice].

I agree that it is Joiner and Joiner's Ap(prentice)

Out of interest I checked the 1839 baptism record for the daughter Mary at Christ Church Todmorden
and that too says that her father's occupation was Joiner.

Its possible to download that clipping if you don't already have it, by clicking on the Circle with 3 vertical dots symbol at the top right  and choosing the download option.

wow! great obit #Tikettyboo. Thanks everyone, I had first thought joiner but then realised the i was after the n, but glad you all agree that's what it is. The article confirms him as a joiner and later (in occupations I'd found him in) Auctioneer, Land and General Agent, organist and and rates collector. Just now found his gravestone too, which includes the article as well: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/198169311/william-greenwood.
Thanks everyone  :)
