George Wildman 1812
« on: Sunday 09 November 25 21:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find what happened to George Wildman

Bap 23 Aug 1812 at St Wilfrid Melling Lancashire along with his twin sister Margaret
Parents William Wildman and Mary Hadwin who married in 1809 Lancaster.

My next record of George is in the Lancaster Herald 3 Sept 1831 Coroners Inquest
in which William and George gave evidence.
“ George Wildman says I am apprentice with my father who is a surgeon of Wray about 2 miles off…
William Wildman says I live at Wray and am a surgeon there….”

From here I can find no more about him.  His twin sister Margaret is present at the death of their father William in 1839.  Margaret died in 1842.

George and Margaret have an older sister Mary Ann bap 1810 Melling who marries 1834 to Richard Morley, and I have no more on her.

Any help would be appreciated

The Lancs OPC transcription shows the baptisms were 12.8.1812 not 23rd & parents were William & Margaret (not Mary)

The transcription also shows Margaret b  10 Aug & George 11 Aug ( presumably one just before midnight & the other after).  William is shown as a surgeon.  The baptism’s were very quick after the birth??

The Margaret Wildman who died 1842 was a baby - did Margaret marry in which case the death would be under her married name

There is this record. Not sure what it is exactly - possibly something to do with his death?

Just found this in the Preston Pilot 12 Aug 1837
On the 29th at his fathers house George Wildman Esq of Lancaster surgeon son of George Wildman of Moorside in Caton in his 31 year.

So may not be him or the Newspaper has the fathers name wrong??

I saw this earlier but his age didn't fit the profile given as his parents were said to have married in 1809

I don't think that is him as the Wildman family I am researching are from Wray.  And William his father dies in Wray I have no record of them been in Moorside Caton.
They have ties back to Tatham Fells.

Richard Morley was a Builder of Liverpool.
A Margaret Wildman was a Marriage witness

This appears to be them in 1841 in Liverpool;
Richard Morley   30 Joiner
Mary Morley 30
Richard Morley 3
George Morley 5 mths

Baby George may have been buried 28 Sep. 1841 St Paul, Caton
Gosh a lot of George Wildmans around as one is on same page as buried age 61

MORLEY, GEORGE mmn WILDMAN
GRO Reference: 1841  M Quarter in WEST DERBY  Volume 20  Page 864

Have to sign out going away.

I haven't found them 1851 but there is another Richard around, Wife Mary, but another couple think.
Maybe Mary nee Shutt

Trish :)

Quite a coincidence that the 31yr old George Wildman who died 1837 was a surgeon as was his father - also reported as George - as was William Wildman father of the George Wildman baptised 1812

A lot of surgeons called Wildman??

I would invest £3 in a digital copy of the 1837 death cert in case the newspaper report of his fathers name is incorrect

William died 1839 - what was his address on his death cert?

As you say, Carole, lots of Wildmans.
There are these newspaper snippets –  1842

Mrs. Armstrong, of Liverpool, daughter of the late Mr. Wildman, surgeon, of Wray.
Mr. JOHN ARMSTRONG, late of this town; being the last of a family comprising father, mother, and daughter …
Lancs OPC - Melling has the burials of infant Jane, and parents Margaret and John all of Wray.
