There is an article in the Gateshead Post on that date which is reporting on the introduction of a new Pelican crossing. Mrs. Lynne Coulson of Beaconsfield Avenue Low Fell was one of those supporting its introduction. There is a reference to two accidents supposedly caused by drivers having to stop for the crossing and in each case a heavy vehicle crashing into the rear of the vehicle in front.
