Llodrog?

Does anybody know where Llodrog is? This is the register of the Three Crosses Chapel, Gower. Cant see any trace of it on Google Maps or the NLS maps.

Just found a newspaper report from 1869 of Penclawdd Eisteddfod which mentions someone from Llodrog, so looks like it could be the right place, just going under various spelling/anglicisation options

I found a reference to a Llodrog in Pembrey - which on a map was Lletrog - so looks like a possible scenario

Can I also ask about this please? "Mary daughter of John Jenkin, labourer, Llanelltid Parish in the county of Glamorganshire by Lucy his wife born 19 Sep 1817 and bap 09 Nov 1817."

Cant see a parish called Llanelltid? Can possibly see a hamlet in the Gower called Llethryd?

Llechryd is very small but not that far from Three Crosses.

I can help you with the bottom entry on the page for William son of John Jones. I think the residence should be Ffosfelin which is an older name for Gowerton which was in the parish of Loughor at that time.

Thanks for all your help. My 5GG John Jenkin(s) was first married at Llanrhidian in 1799 to Mary Fox. He's apparently of Bishopston (not far away). Mary dies the follwing year and then he remarries a Lucy/Luce Rosser in 1801. Banns read at Loughor (her parish) and Llanrhidian.

Only found 4 children. William Jenkin 1808 in Pennard, and another William 1811 (but no burial for the first one?). Anne in 1814 in Ilston and Mary born 19 Sep 1817 listed in the Three Crosses Congregational register. (abode of Llanelltid Parish).

Cant work out why the children are so late? Was he in military service? If so, cant see any trace of it. Just made the 1841 census. John and Lucy living in Ilston. John dies in 1843 and buried at Bishopston (his residence was Parkmill (parish of Ilston)). Looks like by 1851, Lucy has upped sticks and gone to live with daughter Ann as shes stated as a Widow in 1851 census.

My immediate reaction to Llanelltid was it's a version of Llanilltyd, which tends to be anglicised as Llantwit. The ones I know are  Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glam, and Llantwit Fardre near Pontypridd - a bit too far to be likely here.

However, a bit of rummaging on the web has taught me that the Welsh for Ilston is Llanilltud Gŵyr. Given the link to Parkmill later in life, it looks quite possible?

Not all non-conformist registers have survived & not all that survive are online so there may be more baptisms. Burials are often in parish churchyards as not all non-conformist churches have a graveyard. Three Crosses Congregational does, but not all registers will be online.
