Doesn't Diana Margaret Murray's death record imply that her husband Fred was sitll alive at the time of her death? Edited: probably not if he was AWOL.

Sparatt.
Quote from: Essnell on Monday 12 January 26 07:37 GMT (UK)

"
She was previously married to Albert ‘Wotjobuluk’ Coombes. There is a daughter for them Emily Elizabeth Coombes 1865-1865.

I do not see that as a registered birth.

Edith nee McCREADIE and Albert COOMBS married in Victoria (1359 / 1884)

And had a number of children in Victoria. Easily searched.

The last registered birth was William in 1901"

reply to above quote:
As far as I am able to ascertain from records I have not yet found Elizabeth Emily Coombes' birth.
Counter to her not being born at all  I found her death registry in the same year,1865.
She was 4 months old. There is no other information as to parents, neither father nor mother, also nothing on place on birth or death.  Here is the record no if anyone want's to buy a copy:
Elizabeth Emily Coombes  Age 4 mths  Ref No; 7160/1865, NSW or Vic

Edith nee McCREADIE ( formerly COOMBS ) was still producing children after her marriage to Albert COLGER and was supposedly 50 years at her death in 1917. So a 1865 birth is doubtful.

Regarding Beatrice KIRBY
As an alternative to her being the one who was daughter Arthur F KIRBY and Laura MURRAY who is stated to be born in 1931 and marrying in 1941.

I think it possible that the Laura in question was nee MITCHELL and the Arthur in question is Arthur JOSEPH KIRBY .

Their daughter , Beatrice is stated born in 1924. Regrettably I see no reg.

As we know, there were siblings and half-siblings throughout many indigenous families

This sad but interesting biographical article tells that Theresa KIRBY was the youngest surviving child of Laura (nee MITCHELL) and Arthur Joseph KIRBY. She was born in 1934
It mentions her sister Beatrice.

This may be the death of the Laura KIRBY referred to in the PDF.  It would fit with the statement that Teresa’s mother died when Teresa was young.

This is the death of Arthur Joseph KIRBY. Accident referred to in the PDF.

Teresa, under her married name , is buried at Swan Hill

This is an ancestry link to a tree which offers photos of this family including Beatrice.
It is stated she married Bert MURRAY in 1941.
SORRY Edit-- adding the forgotten link.

Anyhow, all worth a look.
At least this Beatrice was old enough to marry, not 10 years old. ;D

Hi Sparratt
Thanks for the latest post.
I have had a quick look and it's quite interesting.  I think most of it is relevant.
I followed the last link.

By following the family lines I found Arthur F. S. Kirby. Photo same as I have previously seen.
It says that he married Laura Murray.  Unfortunately there is no information relating to her.

I need to recheck about Albert and Bert  I think [if memory is right] Bert died and Albert was nicknamed Bert .

When I get back home today I will do that check and let you know.

Hi Essnell,
Do you have any new findings on Mabel, (possibly SMITH) mother of Frank and whose brother (whose name I do not know...SMITH??) raised little Frank?

Hi Sparratt .

More on Mabel after this bit.

Re Kirby's.
Arthur Joseph Kirby is the one who died by accident and is the subject of the Coroner's Enquiry  dated 11-04- 1938
It was signed in the record book by C Soady JP.  Place Balranald ,NSW.
point of interest:  The name" Soady" is the same as for the witnesses on the Marriage Certificate for William Murray to Alice Colger, May 1920. {Bessie and Mabel]

Now following on about Arthur Joseph Kirby,

I don't have any information about his burial.  But I have found this in the Riverina Recorder, dated Saturday May 11th 1940  on page 2.

Death Notice for Lora Kirby>   quote from the paper- produced by Ai.  so not everything gets picked up.

DEATH OF LOCAL IDENTITY: There died at the local hospital on last[?], after a short "illness, well- known and respected resident in the person of Mrs. Lora Kirby.
Mrs.Kirby was a widow, her husband having predeceased her about eighteen months ago. The burial took place at the Aboriginal Reserve on Monday last, the Rev McLean conducting the service. Burial date 6th May - so she died a bit before that.  She must be Lora[Laura] Mitchell.

Now their son is Arthur Francis Samuel Kirby DoB 13th Nov 1912, at Darlington Point. He died in 1977.

He married Laura Murray.
In 1949 they were on the electoral Roll at Balranald.

Now re Mabel.  Short answer No.   Nothing new.

However I have built a comprehensive family document on her. I know  her parents, I know her grandparents, all her siblings  and who each married and their children.

We have numerous DNA connections to these people.
I know whom she eventually did marry and her 5 children and those of her spouse when he re-married after she died.  I even know who commissioned her headstone and  when and who would have provided the information on it.

However no one talks. Most are extremely private re her .

Her brother Leslie Smith appears to have raised Frank as his son. That's confirmed on his AIF papers. I have those.
I have the birth Cert for Frank in Footscray 1922 and Mabel was  17yrs old.

I have gone through this side meticulously. It adds up with the DNA for S-i-L.

She is definitely Frank's Mother and S-i-L's grandmother.

S-i-L's niece also has these links in her DNA matches.

The only thing I would like to find out is if there was a school to which Frank could have been sent in the Swan Hill area.  I'd like to find an Admission Register for him. It could shed some light on this bit...maybe.   Some time around 1927.

I am wondering why you asked about this side of the question.

Essnell.
