Hi There

The surname Mornington doesn't seem to appear on the Irish census and I can only see ONE reference to the surname on the BMD register up to 1901 🤔

Are you sure that you are working with the correct family in 1861 ?

Are you sure that online tree stating that her father was a Peter Mornington is correct ?

Tara,

The surname for the birth of Olive (Mornington) has been mis-transcribed.....it should be Warrington (and it's been reported by me).

Hi There,

So am I right in saying then that there are ZERO mentions of the surname MORNINGTON in Ireland ?

I am confused then as to where the OP has gone from Mordaunt to Mornington . . .

Hopefully they post to clarify . . .

Thanks

Tara

There is a marriage in 1862 for Mary Mordaunt and Richard Mayo, Walsall
Children going to that couple have mother’s surname with variations of Mordaunt.

Is she the Mary in 1861 with Cath Mornington.

This Catholic marriage is on Find my Past - Richard Mayo and Mary Mordrient but I cannot see the details.

Added
There are also Catholic baptisms for some of the Gaunt children.

Hi Heywood,

I wonder was it simply that the family got fed up with people trying to pronounce and spell the surname so they just changed it ?

It can make it tricky to be positive that the correct family is being looked for though . . .

Thanks For The Clarification

Is it possible that Catherine Mordaunt (nee ?) was widowed and married a Mr Mornington ?
