Found a death in 1890 on the GRO Death Index.  Was her husband Richard?

Grace Williams Age 46 3 Nov 1890 20 Layland Steet ,West Derby - Widow of Richard Williams Railway Breakman. She died of Addisons Decease Phthisis.   Daughter Emily Williams present at death

Kay

The 1882 baptism of George has father as Richard, Railway guard.
Its very likely that you have the right Grace.
Well done.

Thanks very much Wilcoxon. I've tried so hard to try and research on my own but with Grace, I have totally confused myself and was at my wits end. I thought it time to sign up to Rootschat and seek the help of experts.

I looked at his death cert on the GRO Death Index and it was issued by the Coroner - a Mr Barker? from the Lancashire Inquest held on 16 April 1883 but you probably already have this info

Thanks Kay. Yes, I do have Richard's death certificate and it did take me by surprise seeing his cause of death. At some point I will look at obtaining any reports available  for the inquest although I don't know if this is possible.

In regards to Grace. In your experience, and with so much corroborating information confirming this is the right Grace, can you effectively disregard her age of 46, given she was born in 1840 and died in 1890? Perhaps children may have not known the exact year of birth or age of their parents?

Many thanks

Graham

Exactly as you say - the information is only as good as the knowledge of the informant.

One of my grandmothers took 5 years off her age each time she married which made finding her birth interesting.  She also said she came from the Isle of Man but was actually born in Liverpool ;D
