Rebecca Bayes 1781 Milton Keynes
« on: Monday 03 November 25 14:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone help me find this ladies birth please. She is one of my great, great grandmothers.

She married James Leach, 24/12/1812, at Milton Keynes. On 1851 and 1861 census she is stated to have been born at Milton Keynes. She is living at Ravenstone, Alms Yard.

I wonder if her name could possibly be spelled incorrectly ?

Thank you

The online transcript from familysearch shows her surname as Bays.  Have you seen the original marriage entry  :-\

Hello rosie99

No, I haven’t seen the original marriage entry.
This is one of my “Brick Walls” that I have returned to try and solve.

Love to know her parentage.

Jean

What about this baptism?

Rebecca Bates baptised Fenny Stratford 16 October 1782, parents Thomas and Ann.

Fenny Stratford is 3 miles from Milton Keynes according to Genuki.

Have you tried the Buckinghamshire Records Office.

As she was living in Ravenstone Alms Houses, there may be records.

Don't you have to be from an area or have established residency to be eligible for Alms relief ?

It has a church All Saints so is it possible she is from Ravenstone?

No, I haven’t seen the original marriage entry.

I would advise you to look at it.

If the census data is correct, she was 31 or 32 when she married and may have been a widow, in which case you won't find her baptism under the name Bayes (or variant).

Email Bucks Archives and ask for a digital image of the entry in the marriage register. The names of the witnesses there may also help.

Not sure if you noticed the marriage in 1813 for a Daniel Boys (bride Elizabeth Cory)?

In the 1841 census for MKV, Rebecca Leach and Daniel Boys were aged 60 (rounded ages), as was an Ann Boys (a single occupant but maybe a widow) but there are no Boys in the 1851 census.

Checking the PR, parents John and Mary Boys baptised Elizabeth (1772), William (1775), Susannah (1777), David (1781) and Mary (1786) and Rachel and Richard (1788).  These are also transcribed as Boyce.

Hope this helps...

Boombox and Norfolk Nan

Thank you both so much. I never thought about a first marriage, so will definitely look into that, and I will also try to find out more about Daniel Boys and Ann Boys, they certainly look interesting!

I have been researching for over twenty years now, and keep coming back to check on my “brick walls “ it is amazing how much new information keeps coming online.
I recently solved two long standing mysteries.

Thank you both, once again
