the record posted by jorose is interesting.

The authorities completing the paperwork for the orphanage admission state Ethel has "deserted" the children while the whereabouts of the father Ernest is known.

He is stated at Autumn Street Geelong which is the address of his parents George Stephen and Julia PONTIN.

The list of relatives to the children shows the exact relationship to them a bit confused and not completely accurate.

Maybe they helped the girls later on?

Hi Sue,
Yes I have studied that doc over and over I only had the abstract given to me recently, but it's the same as wording as original. I recall if a relative does collect a child it was recorded, this happened with my own father and brothers their eldest sister collected them when she married. But it seems this didnt happen with the girls they stayed their until they were at the age to work....

Perhaps you have evidence of that being the case, but I would say the files on the girls are incomplete.
Maybe missing, removed or misplaced. You can easily flip through the case books and see more detailed information in the records of other children admitted. I have looked through the books A to P, to locate PONTIN without result.

QUESTION

What was the address of each girl given on their marriage certificates and who were the witnesses?

As there seems no immediate clues to the location of Ethel, you may need to look at pointers and clues from other directions
