joseph busby b 1811 ealthorp,warwicks attested for the royal artillery in 1829,,he was a groom by trade,,,he served till 1850,,a note on his record states he was to reside at 11 douglas street ,westminster,,,so this is him in 1851

was one of his children also called Joseph??there is  this birth in 1841 of a joseph busby,,the royal artillery reference referes to the fathers regiment,,,you can order this birth cert from the GRO.

I found the census you mentioned for Ann and the children in 1851,,,so the birth for Joseph looks correct,,seems her husband was a warder of some sort at millbank prison,which is why he is not on the census with the family,,here is Mary Anns birth reference ;)

as you say,,his son george was number 549 16th queens lancers,,his record is on the findmypast website,,but has been mixed up with another mans,,so only 2 out of 7 pages are actually georges,,,,,josephs record is also on FindMyPast. ;)

Thank you, very interesting. The Busby connection is one that I and other members of the family have neglected somewhat, but I'm still surprised I missed this, as I live in York. I will now visit the York Victorian cemetery and check their records.
