Trying to find the death of Robert MITCHELL, but without much luck. Most online trees etc say he died pre1870 in Dublin, but I am not so sure.
Robert was the second son of William and Louisa MITCHELL, the subject of a previous post. He was born about 1817 in Dublin. In 1844 at St Mark Kennington, in London he married Elizabeth MANSFIELD.
They had four children all born Dublin:
Sarah Anne 1846-1931
Sydney George 1848-1920
Louisa Harriette 1849-1926
Alfred Mansfield 1852-1936
When Sarah Anne married Hugh MAGUIRE in Belfast in 1870 the marriage notice in the Belfast Newsletter said she was "the eldest daughter of Robert Mitchell, late of Dublin". Her marriage registration did not say her father was deceased. If he was deceased the notice would surely say she was the daughter of the late Robert Mitchell.
When Sydney married Ellen McCORMACK in Dublin in 1874, the marriage registration did not say Robert was deceased. Sydney and his family went to the US in 1885.
When Alfred married Janet HAMMOND in Wiltshire, England in 1887, the marriage cert did not say Robert was deceased, but it did state that the bride's father was.
By 1891 census time Elizabeth and unmarried daughter Louisa were in Clapham in London. Elizabeth was a widow. She appears in 1901 as well, and then died in Dec 1901. She was buried in West Norwood Cemetery with her MANSFIELD family.
