this looks like the marriage. John N Kershaw
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGPN-1S8J?lang=en

Someone has attached that record to a John Needham Kershaw, son of Titus
https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/details/LHW5-8GT

or maybe you have all that :)

If his middle name does turn out to be Needham, the odds are pretty good that some close male relative was named John  Needham, maybe his maternal grandfather. Run through that NY Marriage book, and any other records you can find for the area,  and see if there were any Needhams around.

Thanks for that.

John Needham kershaw was baptised in Mottram, Cheshire 27 July 1775 to Jno.
There are 466 trees on Ancestry who says he went to America, but so far I haven't found any
concrete evidence that he did.

Thanks

Have you worked backward from the man who married in Trinity Church, Westchester county to see where he came from? If you haven't, besides looking at the records, look for histories of the church or the more specific location where it is. There might be some mention of him, Kershaws, in general, or some passing statement like "many of the residents came from ..." Google for the name and location also, since there might be some small personal sites with information.

There are churches named Trinity at at least these two locations in Westchester Co:

311 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801

Larchmont, NY 10538

maybe the church record book at familysearch narrowed it down

edit: I just checked and the early pages of the typewritten transcription say New York, New York, New York. So that might mean the New York parish.

-----
more
he is not in https://westchesterhistory.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/2020-Biography-Index.pdf which is an index to a lot of resources for Westchester County.
The only Kershaw mentioned is a Karl Kershaw.

I was hoping to find information about that man that might say where he was from.

-----
also - do the trees on Ancestry think that the man in Westchester Co is the same as the man in Louisiana? Is he?
Or could we be dealing with 3 John Kershaws?
Or 2, and yours is the man in Louisiana but not the one in NY.

Thanks for the reply and information.

No I haven't worked back from the marriage, I've only recently discovered that there might be a US connection.

I have checked the baptism for the John on the trees on Ancestry and it just states John Kershaw, no middle name or initial, so I think someone has just jumped to that one and everyone else has copied.
Not sure yet about the burial.

I will write to a few of the tree owners to see what documents they have with the name John Needham Kershaw on.

Thanks again
