Hi, I am a volunteer helping others with their DNA and Family history research but I live in Canada and the microfilm is at the FHL in SLC.  I hope someone will help me with this request!  I would very much appreciate the information for the following baptism:

Name   Kathleen Annie Mary Mills
Gender   Female
Baptism Date   28 Oct 1908
Baptism Place   Great Barford, Bedford, England
FHL Film Number   1042880
Reference ID   item 8 p 185

As you already know the parish and the exact date, why not just email Bedfordshire Archives and ask for a digital image from their film of the parish register? Seems a much easier way to go!

Have you checked with your nearest centre whether the film can be ordered for you?

It's a while since I used the one here in England but they ordered a film of a USA baptism from Utah for me.  I had to pay a small fee

There is no corresponding birth for those names on the GRO index.  What else do you know about her?

She is on a "waifs & strays" outward passenger list from Liverpool to Quebec in 1924

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THEY DON'T SEND MICROFILMS ANYMORE!  I CALLED THEIR HELP LINE AND SHE SAID THE ONLY WAY TO VIEW IT IS TO GO INTO THE LIBRARY AT SALT LAKE CITY.

And on 20 Jun 1907, Frederick (Norman) Blackburn (another child boarder in the same household in 1911) was baptised at Great Barford - no parents named.
So it could be that the boarding house keeper is sent orphans from London (but they may not be born there) and has them baptised but doesn't know who their parents are. Are the names they are baptised in their original names or has she invented them? Who knows

THIS IS REALLY INTERESTING!  AND THE OTHERS THAT WERE ON THE POOR LAW RECORDS THAT WERE ALSO BAPTIZED THERE - IT MAKES SENSE THAT THIS IS OURS.  THE CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY NOTED THAT SHE WENT THERE AS A BABY AND WAS PAID FOR HER KEEP FOR 2 YEARS, BUT AFTER THAT FOR 5 YEARS THEY DIDN'T GET ANY $.  WHEN SHE CAME TO CANADA AT THE AGE OF 17 SHE IS KATHLEEN AIMEE MARY MILLS AND THERE WAS A BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR HER IN 1908 AS I HAVE NOTED.  BUT I GOT NOWHERE FINDING DOCUMENTATION ABOUT THAT MARRIAGE (MILLS/FREELAND).  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

And the other two 1911 child boarders baptised at Great Barford
Henry John Thompson bapt 22 Dec 1904 mother Louise no father recorded

Marshall Stephen bapt 25 Jul 1907  no parents recorded

THANK YOU AGAIN!  THIS IS AMAZING!  SO THE CHURCH/WAIFS AND STRAYS SOMEHOW GETS THESE BABIES AND THEN SENDS THEM TO GREAT BARFORD TO BE WITH THE FOSTER MOTHER.  THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE I HAVE THAT HAS AIMEE KATHLEEN MARY MILLS BORN IN 1908 (NOT 1907 AS THE POOR LAW SHOWED) SHOWED HER BEING BORN AT 10 PEMBERTON GARDENS - FATHER'S NAME LISTED JOHN THOMAS MILLS AND MOTHER'S NAME ANNIE (FORMERLY FREELAND) BUT FORMERLY FROM REGENT STREET (WHICH I FOUND STRANGE).  I SUSPECT THAT 10 PEMBERTON GARDENS IS A PLACE FOR SINGLE MOM'S TO HAVE THEIR BABIES WHICH IS NEXT TO FOCUS ON!

10 Pemberton Gardens was a maternity home. There is a case at the Old Bailey regarding a child born of an unmarried mother being taken from there.

Added: It might be best to take off your caps lock to make your posts easier to read. :)

Unfortunately the actual day has a black mark over it but it is August 1908 and the place is 10 Pemberton Gardens

C

THAT'S ON HER TREE AND I HAVE ALSO ORDERED AN ACTUAL CERTIFICATE FROM THE GRO WHICH IS NOW POSTED.  I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE REPORTED INFO PLEASE - ITS THE MOTHER REPORTING THE BIRTH AND SHE STATES SHE LIVES AT 10 PEMBERTON GARDENS, BUT THEN SAYS FORMERLY OF REGENT STREET.  I'M WONDERING WHY!
