1921 census advice please.
« on: Friday 31 October 25 12:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

My Redmans of Arundel research has been on a back burner for a while but my interest has been re kindled  by the discovery on a FB page of an old school photo including my grandfather’s sister which I think is late 1800/early 1900.

My question is am I allowed to ask for lookups on 1921 census.  Or, as I have no ancestry subs anymore can I gain access to records anywhere without?

Not sure about whether look-ups are allowed BUT your local library may have access to FindMyPast and/or Ancestry - both of which have 1921 census information.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Where is the line between unfair lookups and collaboration?

I am enquiring on behalf of an associate, as they say.

I think that we are not allowed to directly ask for lookups in 1921 or 1939 as the records are only available on subscription sites. I don't think that there is any reason why we can't ask for information on someones whereabouts after 1911 and not mention these databases.  Rootschatters can always send PM's  ;D

jettejjane, there are many ways in which we can steer and help you in your research. Name the person who you are looking for, when and where they were born, all info that you have, future marriage and deaths.
