RAFVR 78 Squadron
« on: Wednesday 29 October 25 23:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to find picture of a relative of mine, who was in the RAF as navigator in 78 Squadron. I have attached his officers record but cannot get the service record at the moment as it is mid transfer between the mod and national archives. Any photos or help in finding some would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Graham

Hello

I can see a lot of references to him in RAF Operations Record Books on The Genealogist. He was a navigator in 78 Squadron Bomber Command flying in Handley Page Halifax.

Hello Martin, yes that's right I am sure there must be some decent photos of Alan,  but was hoping to get the info of where he did his training but that is on his service record. So thought maybe somebody might know a different method of finding some. Fingers crossed.

Hi,
There is a picture of his marriage in the Bournemouth Times and Directory 27th September 1940. It mentions he is in the RAF but he is not in uniform in the photo.

Graham

You can get his service record direct from the MOD if you have his death certificate. I have obtained several over the past year or so, for a project I'm doing.

Do you know his service number?

Martin

Hi Martin, yes I sent off for it but only recieved the officers record for him the service no. is on that, 129536. They told me the service record was between mod and national archives and to request it again in December. Hopefully it will then be available. I thought maybe somebody might be able to find a link from the officers record to some pictures of him.
I have the newspaper photo of the wedding and a picture although small from the IWM.
Cheers, Graham
