Incomplete RN Record/Ledger
« on: Tuesday 28 October 25 01:22 GMT (UK) »
I have a copy of my late father's RN record - pay and victual and what I think is a ledger collated from various ships books and I'm having trouble making sense of the information because there is no carry-over between the two. He was apparently at HMS Golden Hind 22 December 1944 until 27 May 1946. During that time he was on loan to HMS Queenborough from 7 June 1945 but on the pay and victual record it states there are no details regarding when this might have finished. I know HMS Queenborough returned to Sydney in May 1945 due to mechanical issues and following repair the ship was deployed in Australian waters between June 1945 and August 1945. Pay and Victual Record and the Ledger have him back at HMS Golden Hind in October 1945.

Is it normal that the two records don't match? I know he deserted numerous times but they always return him to barracks. Did the RN not notice he'd taken off? Moreover, he was back at HMS Golden Hind in January 1946 and February 1946. The ledger has him on HMS Widemouth Bay from 1 July 1946 and 1 May 1947. Victual and Pay have him on Widemouth Bay between 28 May 1946 until 6 July 1946. He signed for another three years on 29 May 1946 at HMS Simbang.

Apologies for the ramble, I hope someone can make sense of my query.

Many thanks
