Louisa and Harriett MITCHELL
« on: Saturday 25 October 25 10:55 BST (UK) »
Louisa and Harriett MITCHELL were the two youngest children of William and Louisa MITCHELL of Grafton Street, Dublin.

According to his will made on 7 September 1840 they were under the age of 21 years, and were put under the guardianship of their eldest brother George Mitchell who at that time was just married and aged 24-25. William died on 9 September. His wife Louisa died in Jan 1838 aged 43.

The will also said they were of tender years and so could have been quite young.

Have not found anything about them after that date. A number of online trees are the only other place they have shown up. They are not buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery where their parents were buried.

Hoping someone can assist.

Thanks

Hello
It looks like the youngest Harriet Adelaide Mitchell was born c 1831.
She is in London on the 1861 census preparing for her wedding at Isleworth.
Haddon house
Barton George Gray 68 East Indies Merchant London
Sarah 70 wife St George Queens Square London
Jane Barton 36 daughter Islington
then visitors
George Mitchell 70 (nephew /son in law?) retired banker St George Queens Square
Podmore Thompson Rev son  in law 34 Hastings
wife Georgina Podmore 34 London (nee Barton)
Harriet Mitchell 30 Dublin
George Barrett 14 Brixton
Eliza Barret 13 Barnes
Agnes Barret 5 Paddington
then 5 servants.

She married 21st Dec 1861 JC Weedon Cooke at Isleworth (turns out to be Thomas Christopher Weedon Cooke born 1816 Bristol Surgeon.
I haven't seen the actual marriage but The Irish Times has an article saying Harriet is the youngest daughter of late WH Mitchell.

No sign of Louisa unless she is the Lucy Mitchell aged 45 who died in Dublin South 1865.

George Mitchell bapt 30.4/22.5.1791 St Luke Finsbury and Sarah Jane Ann Mitchell 14.11.1788 St George Queens Road  ch of George and Jane Mitchell.
Sarah Jane Ann Mitchell married 7.3.1819 at St Barts the Exchange George Gray Barton.

Hope that helps

Many thanks ciderdrinker. That definitely looks like Harriet.

Harriet's father William was also a son of George and Jane, baptised as William Henry in 1787 at St George the Martyr. George was actually the George baptised at St George as well in 1790. Residence was Orange Street. There was also another George and Jane baptising kids at the same time.

Yes rathmore that is the family.

Harriet and Thomas Cooke had three daughters. Thomas died in 1872. The others then disappeared after 1881, until I found one of the daughters married in 1912. Her husband died in Rome so I went looking for Harriet in Rome and found her death there in 1894.

The three daughters ended up in Iffley in Oxfordshire where they all died.

Still no sign of Louisa the other missing sister as yet though.

"This tablet is also a memory of | 5 Infant
sons of the above | whose remains are deposited in | St.
Annes Churchyard "

Maybe Louisa is amongst the 'sons'? EDITED: probably not as she was alive when he wrote his will in 1840  ::) Anyway, maybe St. Annes is worth a look?

Thanks Patlac

Quite a good source there. No photos though, guess they have been taken down as everyone was copying them.
