John Mooney
« on: Friday 24 October 25 10:49 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone

Can anyone help me find out what happened to my grand uncle John Mooney?

He was born in Milngavie: 16 Oct 1893 52, kirk street, Milngavie, Stirlingshire, Scotland

Dad was Hugh Mooney and mother McIvor.

Possibly died in 1981, Scotlands people gave me a record for a John Mooney, mother McIvor i am not sure.

He appears in the 1901 census at Waterworks Cottage in Maryhill, my great grandparents home.

I think he went on to be a miner but what happened after that I am not sure. John Mooney is quite a popular name.

I have attached the family tree as well.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hugh

Hi Thanks, I do not have the certificate. Quite a lot to invest if it was not him. I was trying to see if i could verify it was in first!

I believe the address is/was an old peoples home.

Milngavie is not in Stirlingshire

Yes interesting, i think Ancestry just recalls an earlier time when it was in Stirlingshire. Milngavie is his birthplace.

Not really a 'lot to invest.' The name, age and mother's maiden name seems to match the details you already know (name, date of birth, mother's name name (although you should also have her first name(s) from his birth certificate). Viewing the certificate on Scotland's People will cost £1.50- not much for a certificate.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I think b/c of the death not being over a certain age, its £12 for the certificate. For the points you mention I do think that is him.

It was the intervening period and if he had any kids or was married that I was more curious about.

Apologies- thought it was before the cut-off date.

Do you have him in 1911 and 1921 census?

Hi on the 1921 i could not find him, so many Johns and none with a matching "other name" i could think of.

The 1911 is attached.
