Yes I wonder why the late marriage too.  There were 4 children born by then - Beatrice Maud born 1903 died 1905.

They were young parents but most were in those days.  Father did remarry but some years later.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Whilst we await the magic crystal ball have ordered the marriage for Clara Maud Lester.
It may not tell us anything new but curious to see what is in the father’s box if nothing else.

I also found this Charles Lester entry last night for 17 July 1871
Admissions to Brookwood Asylum Woking
He is down as 43 married and a clerk
Can’t read his address 39 ?  Street Horsleydown

Don’t know if that is our Charles though as he was miles away for the census earlier that year  :-\

Thanks Ladyhawk, I haven't come across another similar couple!

There is mention in those records of a previous admission for Charles in 1862 to the asylum in Wandsworth.
I can't find that. But there is a Charles Lester in the national indexes, admitted 6 March 1860 to the Surrey asylum. Discharged 27 April 1860, recovered.

The Brookwood record also says adjudicated to Mile End Old Town, 3 August 1871. Perhaps Charles somehow had a settlement there.
Anway, in the register of order of removals (inwards) to MEOT, there is a brief entry for Charles Lester (lunatic) in 1860. Order received from St Giles Camberwell (where he is in the 1861 census!) Mentions a mother

If we could only find that removal order! And was there one in 1871? (Probably not!)
