Hi all,

Thanks for all your info.  The death I had originally for Wm I must of typed 1830 instead of 1837 because the burial date was correct.  I g**gled how to become a Surgeon in the 1830's and AI interestingly enough gave a few examples of apprenticeships, medical school, mentorship, etc.  I'd be interested to know more about this.

I have had another thread about the children of William SHAW and Mary UNWIN.  They had another son George baptised in 1817 (but born c1798), probably as an adult even though the register doesn't say so.  He is my x3 gr grandfather and was also in the 'smith' trade.

I found a doc that read Mary Shaw, widow of Clowne and children were removed to Mansfield Notts in 1844.  We know that Elizabeth Thompson was with the daughters Mary and Anne at The Seminary School in Worksop in 1841, and James was with the Malthouses.

I'll be following up all the other suggestions and the wills.

Many thanks.

bitzar.

If anyone has access could you please check the 1829 marriage at Mansfield of Mary MASON to Wm Shaw.  It could be a possibility.

Many thanks.

It was by licence - I'm not sure where you may be able to locate the actual licence?

The wills are going to be important.Do keep us updated.
I'm not sure you have the correct George bap 1817 but you say was born 1798.  I know it says William Shaw - Ironmonger as his father.

1841 Census Worksop
Mary Shaw 70  Independent
George Shaw 23   (born circa 1817)
William Shaw 8   (is this William and Mary possibly nee Mason's son William born 1832?)

This George Shaw on the 1841 is an interesting one.  There is definitely something not quite right with one George Shaw.  The George on the census you attached can’t be traced after 1841 from memory.

Bitzar.

Wow.  Thank you for this.  The two George’s have always been an issue.  My George, the other one, said he was born out of county on the 1841.  He must fit into the family somehow being a Whitesmith.

Bitzar.
