William SHAW, Surgeon. Whitwell and Clowne c1830's.
« on: Friday 24 October 25 03:36 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I'm tidying up a few families including my Shaw family of Worksop, Notts.  I had my William Shaw born 20 June 1807 at Worksop, s/of William Shaw and Mary Unwin and death 07 Dec 1830 at Worksop.  Now looking at his death, I have nil idea how I know this and am revisiting it!

William's sister Elizabeth born c1794 at Worksop most likely married Thomas THOMPSON in Worksop in 1820  (Witnesses, M Shaw and Eliza Unwin).  On the 1851 she is at Kingston upon Hull without her husband but with her daughter Eliza and niece Mary aged 16 born at Whitwell, Derbyshire.  On the 1841 Elizabeth is at the Seminary in Worksop with both her daughters, Eliza and Marianne.  At the Seminary are also Mary and Anne SHAW, not born in county.  Why would they be at the Seminary?

Back at Whitwell, there are baptisms for Mary, Anne, and William SHAW in 1834 on the same day with actual birthdates of the children listed.  James is baptised in Clowne in 1837.  On the register their father William is listed as a Surgeon.  It's possible James is on the 1841 with another family aged 4.

Something must of happened to William and Mary but I can't see anything likely.  I also can't find a likely marriage for them.

I'm also not used to having Surgeon's in my family of Ironmongers...

Any help appreciated.

bitzar.

Might be worth getting the will of James Shaw who died 1836  probate August 1837, I think he is William's brother

York Prerogative Court

ADDED

Anne Shaw his sister's will probated August 1837 (she also died 1836)

These help establish relationships and prove paternity.
