Gordon Alexander Valentine. b Girvan 21/05/1889
« on: Wednesday 22 October 25 11:08 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find service records for my husbands great Uncle Gordon Alexander Valentine, he was born in Girvan Ayrshire on 21st May 1889. I have posted a photograph of him in uniform, he was a Doctor so believe he served in the Medical Corps.. other than that our knowledge of him is very slim. He married Jane Howard Carpenter, they had two sons Jack (1918) and Howard (1919).

Can anyone identify, from his uniform, which regiment he served with.

Thanks in anticipation

Hello, yes I have his death date and place of death, I got that info from his son Howard (Gordon Howard V), sadly he is no longer with us so I can't ask him for more details.

My grandson is studying WW1 at school and has asked about family members who took part. I can find info for Gordons youngest brother William Bell Scott Valentine but can't find anything about Gordon, if I could identify his regiment it may help...

Thanks for details
Patricia

Might the photo be of Gordon's son John Carpenter Valentine? He was an officer in the RAMC in WW2.

He married 1916 in Scotland if he joined up it was probably in Scotland not England.

I don't think he joined up.

Directories on ancestry have him living in Long Ashton from 1913 onwards to include the war years.

Yes as far as I can see from newspaper mentions, GAV was a doctor in the Bristol area throughout WW1.

Interesting comments.. When Gordons son was alive he sent me this information

Gordon and Jane both being Scottish born, were married on the 29th March 1916 at the Bearsden South, United Free Church, New Kilpatrick. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Little Aston, a village in North Somerset just outside Bristol. Gordon   set up practice as a country GP. There were two sons to the marriage; Jack Carpenter was born in Long Ashton on 21st January 1918 and Gordon Howard on March 11th 1919. Gordon Alexander continued his practice until 1949 when he retired to a small house in Clifton, Bristol. There his wife Jane (Janie) died very suddenly in 1975 and he himself died after a brief illness in 1978.

I believe he also sent me the photo too.  So odd that he is in uniform.

Thanks for all your comments.

Found this photo of a younger Gordon, this was a group photo with his parents and siblings, looks to be a younger version of the uniformed one...  I am quite puzzled now... Patricia
