Hughes Family burial plot - missing members
« on: Tuesday 21 October 25 08:08 BST (UK) »
My great-grandfather purchased a family burial plot at St Luke’s Church in Formby, where most of his family is buried — he and his wife, eight of their ten children, and several grandchildren.

However, the eldest and youngest sons are missing from the plot, and I’ve been unable to locate their burial records. The eldest, William John Seddon Hughes, died on 6 November 1937 in Sussex, and the youngest, Reginald Hamilton Hughes, died on 2 April 1960 at the Royal Salop Infirmary in Shrewsbury. Despite their rather distinctive names, I can’t seem to find any record of where they were buried. Am I overlooking something?

Have you checked newspapers to see if there is any mention of their funerals also they might have been cremated

There is a notice in a Shrewsbury paper in 1938 by the executors of his estate and a will is mentioned. maybe that will gave instructions as to his interment or cremation

Thank you for your help so far, I have requested a copy of Williams will. But I cannot even find an obituary newspaper notice for Reginald.

Hi,

There is a Shrewsbury Book of Remembrance but I don't understand how to view it,

https://shrewsbury.bookofremembrance.uk/

You could contact them to see who it is available to.

Daisy

So.... I have tried to find Williams will and that has hit a bit of a dead end as the solicitors office that had it is no longer around but I am still working on that. As for his wife "lily" that appears to be his second wife Ann and she is buried with her first husband so no help there.

As for Reginald, I contacted the Shropshire book of remembrance and according to them there is no record of him in there even though he died in Salop Infirmary in Shrewsbury.

So I am currently no closer to finding out what happened to either of them after their deaths, does anyone have any more ideas for me to try?
