Thinking of I newspapers,I remember one Giles cartoon ,re “ goings on”at Knightsbridge barracks —- Household Cavalry, Lifeguards, Blues and Royals etc etc
—can’t you tell I know very little  about those !

A high rise council flat, a gorgeous soldier looking very like Michael Caine in
Zulu,    with mascara , those thigh high square toed boots, shiny helmet with horsehair plume, seated at a table , quite effete.
Across the table his father,a docker, rolled up shirt sleeves, thick belt with big buckle, and one of those hooks dockers used to pull bales towards them. His face like thunder.
The Headline on the paper in front of Dad- “ ———————— at Knightsbridge barracks” .
Can’t remember the caption .
Actually Gonville Broomhead ,Michael Caine’s character was a very courageous man many decorations and a good army career.

I have tried to find the cartoon but no success.

Viktoria.

Keep those feet up, and look at the cartoons and crosswords, Viktoria. The news is too depressing for anyone.

Some weeks ago I posted on a local Facebook site, a picture, taken around 1992, of my team of Surveyors working in Building Regulations for Bath City Council. Today, nearly thirty years later two of them called on me, by arrangement, and we had the most wonderful fours hours of reminiscing about times past and how their careers had progressed since I last saw them after I took early retirement in 1997; (surplus to operational requirements after a departmental reorganisation!) What a blessing to be able to sit down and recall the ups and downs of times and experiences past , as the long forgotten names, and happy memories of other members of the team came flooding back. Thank you Andy and Mark.

Been a beautiful day today, I went out  with a friend to a town where the large Co Op shop is shutting, a huge shame,  been in the town for  donkey's years, I bought a really nice blouse top reduced  to  £5, was expensive  to start with so it was a bargain, could have bought so much but I have far to much already, everytime I buy something new I promise myself " one in, one out" but the out one seldon happens.
Raining now but we are shut in and off to bed so it won't affect us,   hope it is an equally nice day tomorrow, missed a good washing day but I can't worry about that, enjoyed my day out.

Sleep tight everyone

Would you mind if I cry. ?

I have been watching  my weight for about 10 days   I wasn't sure if my bathroom scales were wrong, so fully clothed,  had to be I was in a well known chemist,  I weighed myself, good result,   double checked   once again on my home scales , they differed,  so today clothed in exactly the same clothes  I weighed myself in my local  chemist of the same name to double check, I weighed 9lb more than at midday yesterday, how can that be?, I feel so down about it, I have been very good watching  what I eat, no cakes or biscuits, half a small potato and plenty of veg, I might as well give up.

It certainly can be very depressing to weigh oneself and bathroom scales are sometimes unreliable.  We weigh ourselves every Sunday morning and the results seem to be roughly the same as those at our surgery.  I do get depressed if I have put on a few pounds, I must admit, and I was very surprised to discover on our return from a recent holiday in Germany that I didn't seem to have put on any weight, despite the number of "Kaffee und Kuchen" moments spent with friends over there.  I can only think that the amount of walking about that we did over there must have helped.

We don't have cakes, biscuits or puddings at home and we do eat a lot of salads and veg in our efforts to keep fit, but can be easily tempted when away from home.  There are times when I would love to have a chip butty (on soft white bread, well buttered) or some chocolate, or custard cream biscuits.

In your case, LM, it can surely only be a case of faulty scales.  No one could put on half a stone in a day!  Ask the chemist when they last had their scales calibrated!
