Find a birth
« on: Friday 17 October 25 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone help, My late grandparents had 11 children that I can name but I have always been told there were 1/2 more….my grandparents were John Cassidy 1882/1948 and Elizabeth Lizzie Cassidy nee Nash they lived at 25 Argyle Terrace Derry.
The children I know of are
Mary margaret 1915
Lawrence Patrick 1916
William 1920
John Francis 1924
James 1928
Elizabeth 1929
Know dates of birth
Annie died 1920’s
Catherine died 1918
John died 1919
Ellen Philomena died 1927
Ellen philomena died 1923
These five children all died young.
If possible can anyone find the other 1/2   Any help would be fantastic….. many thanks for any help in this.
Kind regards
Argyle

From an earlier thread-
1.Mary Margaret (Molly) born 1915.
2. Lawrence born 1916.
3.William (Bill) born 1920.
4. John Francis (Sean) born 1924.
5. James (Jim) born 1928.
6. Elizabeth Christina Lydia born 1929.
7. Philomena not sure of date.
8. Philomena not sure of date.
9. John died 1919.
10. Catherine died 1918.
Annie Cassidy died 27th Decamber 1923 aged 6 months

GRONI's online birth index goes up to 1925- have you checked all years from time of marriage until then? if not that should be your next step.

There are a few errors in the two lists of children. Here's what I found (and you should easily been able to find)-
1. Mary Margaret (23 Sept.1915)
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1915/01360/1560838.pdf
2. Lawrence Patrick (28 Dec.1916)
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1917/01320/1545478.pdf
3. Catherine Elizabeth (13 June 1918) died 1918
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1918/01280/1530645.pdf
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1918/05179/4429843.pdf
4. "John died 1919" more later
5. William Oliver Plunkett (21 May 1920)
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/birth_returns/births_1920/01216/1505675.pdf
6. Ellen Philomena (3 Apr.1922) "died 1923"
Derry City Cemetery records show she died 10 Mar.1924 (not 1923) age 2.
Ellen Pamela not Ellen Philomena- see next post
7. Annie (cMay 1923-27 Dec.1923)
Cant find a birth registration on GRONI or Irish Genealogy but Derry City Cemetery records also say she died aged 6 months
8. John Francis (13 Aug.1924)
9. Ellen Philomena (c1926) died 1927
Ellen Pamela not Ellen Philomena- see next post
10. James (Jim) born 1928.
11. Elizabeth Christina Lydia born 1929.

#4 "John died 1919" There is no birth listed on either GRONI or Irish Genealogy.
Derry City Cemetery doesn't list his age in years, months or days so this was either a stillborn child or one not registered who died within hours after birth.

Child #9 you've listed as Ellen Philomena was Ellen Pamela (wee sweet Pamela) according to In Memorium notice in Derry Journal 20 Feb.1928. Death notice in Londonderry Sentinel in 1927.
Child #6 you've also listed as Ellen Philomena also Ellen Pamela according to First Anniversary notice also in Derry Journal. Death notice also in Londonderry Sentinel (in 1924).

Many thanks for all this, I did know Ellen Philomena (both) were known as Pamela or as my late mother called her PamElla…but they are registered as Ellen Philomena on the family headstone in Derry city cemetery…
Kind regards Argyle

The philomena/Pamela could be their names were wrongly transcribed from the city cemetery records

No, both daughters called Ellen Pamela as per newspaper notices inserted by her parents.

Yes I know, they were both known as PamElla in the family…thats how they pronounced it…but as I said on the family headstone it says Ellen Philomena, obviously some mix up..
Many thanks for your time on this.
Kind regards
Argyle
