Julian and Gregorian Calendars, problems
« on: Wednesday 15 October 25 19:45 BST (UK) »
I am having problems with births marriages and deaths that occur in  January -March prior to 1752. How should I mark them on my tree, I have births before marriages, deaths before births. I have made notes but this doesn't solve them. Is there a right way to do this?

The conventional way used by historians is to write the year as e.g. 1746/7, for dates between 1 Jan - 24 Mar.  This means it was written as 1746 at the time but we would think of it as being 1747.

Most programs have the option to use double dating. If your program has it it will be in the settings somewhere.

I use Legacy and it is in the Date formatting section.

Thank you MollyC and IanC for your replies, I use the 46/47 in my written tree but it doesn't help on Ancestry.
