Name in old book
« on: Wednesday 15 October 25 14:13 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I recently purchased an old book and it had this inscription in the back. I can make out the top name as Lawrence but would appreciate some help in deciphering the other two lines.

Thank you  :)

2nd line: Aspans book
first word doubtful maybe Lawrence's surname

Lawrence Aspin
Birth registration Q2 1889
Haslingden, Lancashire

Added: there seems to be a better-documented Lawrence Aspin at Accrington, born 1867, a cotton weaver.

Added again: it’s now looking as if the older LA was the father of the younger, and the latter died in infancy. I’ll stop now as I don’t suppose that you need all of this.

Ray,

Thanks for the response. The book is “The history of Jack and his eleven brothers” published by Milner and Company, Paternoster Row. No publication year on it.

Thank you. I couldn’t make bottom line out but the looks a lot like Accrington

Alan,

Thank you for all that info it’s really helpful. I have actually been trying to find what it says to track who Lawrence was. I have a few other books but this was the only one with a distinctive enough name.

I wonder if Lawrence b. 1867 is the one I’m after.

Milner and Company operated from Paternoster Row between 1874 and 1883 I believe. The inscription may be later of course.
