Nicholas Emmett
« on: Monday 13 October 25 16:48 BST (UK) »
I have Nicholas Emmett b1607 father at 40 of Richard in 1647 and Agnes Hoare b 1596 as mother of Richard aged 51, according to Ancestry and Family Search sources.
A most unlikely event.  Can anyone please help me sort this out

Nicholas Emmett certainly married Agnes Hoare at St. Andrew Plymouth 3 March 1643/44.

They had a daughter Joan baptised at Charles in Plymouth 19 Feb 1645/46.

Nicholas had a daughter baptised in the St Andrew Plymouth in 1650.  There are also baptisms in Harberton in late 1640s where the father is Nicholas, but there is no indication that this might be the same Nicholas, no mother's name mentioned.

I have not been able to find a baptism for a Nicholas Emmett who might fit the marriage date.

Hello Nell
Thank you for your input. The daughter was a surprise. Especially given that Agnes was in her fifties. All the sources I have show her born in 1596.
Perhaps that other baptism was Richard born in1647 .
I have several references for Nicholas b. 1607 but not proven father was Nicholas b.1571
Where did you get reference for birth of Joan?

Best wishes

What proof do you have that Agnes was born in 1596?  Have you found a baptism record from a parish record - not an online tree, hint or suggestion from the internet.  I have found two in Plymouth, both at St. Andrew:
17 May 1623, Agnes, daughter of William
25 Oct 1616, Agnes daughter of John

It would be impossible for a woman in her 40s to have had her first child and survived to have more at that date.

Also what are your sources for Nicholas?  I hope not an online tree.

Nell

Hello Nell
Was a long time ago, but now I've checked. Plymouth and West Devon Parish  register  1595-1912. I have no memory

Accidentally sent previous post. The reference was for Agnes.
Agnes age has worried me as I posted. I am convinced my tree stops with Richard which is properly sourced.
Nicholas 1607 had 3 children.  Sourced. Nicholas b. 1644, Anne 1646  and Richard b. 1647 which doesn't help.
Unfortunately, Richard b.1647 sources Don't document father.  I shall check the further.
Thank you everyone
