This is my 1st post in this European section. Wondering if anyone can help with this.
Mamme Roolfs Mammen is recorded on North London censuses from 1861-1911. He is a bootmaker, married firstly to Catherine Hadde in Whitechapel 1857, then to Rose Ruth Dressler (nee Tuffrey), 13 Aug 1889 St. Leonards Shoreditch.
On censuses 1871-1911 his place of birth is Hannover, abt. 1832. On 1861 the date of birth is 1822, age 39, but on the 1871 census he is still 39 b. abt. 1832. I suspect the 1861 census is just an error.
His m. to Rose Ruth Dressler, 13 Aug 1889 records his birth abt. 1831, father Johann Teoppels (Theophilus) Mammen, weaver. Johann Theophilus Mammen is buried 27 Dec 1870 Hannover (Buttforde). The death registration gives his b. as 1795 and parents Mamme Roolfs and Jabe Margaretha Janssen.
Johann Theophilus Mammen m. Ete Reents Schipper 6 May 1837 Hannover. If the b. age is correct on his death registration he is 42 at this time. His son, the aforementioned Mamme Roolfs Mammen (recorded on the London censuses) is born in 1832, 5 years before this marriage. Combined with the late age of Johann Theophilus at m. to Ete, I am wondering if he had an earlier wife who was the mother of Mamme Roolfs. Can't find anything to confirm this, but as I said I am new to these German registers so I may be missing something. Can anyone help or offer any suggestions?
