Did Robert die in Scotland? Perhaps 1916 or 1931? Do you have the certificate which should name both his parents.  Similarly for Peter who died in 1884.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the site to use for BMD info.  It is a pay per view site but the index is free to search

1844 birth entry for Robert shows both parents names & mothers maiden name

Peters 1884 death entry gives his mothers maiden name

According to ScotlandsPeople, Robert Nisbet was born 23 Nov 1844 Gladsmuir to Peter Nisbet & Ann Horsburgh.  They married in Pencaitland 26 March 1840.  This Robert died in 1931

The age for Peter who died in 1884 is given as 60 on the ScotlandsPeople index.  His mother's maiden name may have been Ramage.

Also if Peter was born c 1821 then if his Father was Peter born 1771 he would be 50 when Peter Jnr was born.

I cant see a c 1821 bapt for Peter with my resources but you may find something on scotlandspeople.

Have said that if Peter Snr was born c 1771 the Marriage entry may explain why he married late in life;

Going from Trees he married Marion;

I'm getting a bit confused by this thread.

You say that Robert b 1844 died in Edinburgh. In what year did he die, and what was the name of his wife? What were the names of his children, and which one are you descended from?

You also say that Peter b 1820 died in 1884. The only adult Peter Nisbet whose death was registered in 1884 was aged 60, and his mother's maiden surname was Ramage.

Ann Horsburgh's son Robert, baptised 1844, died in 1931 aged 87.

So you need to resolve the disparity in the names of the mothers.

Have you seen Peter's 1884 death certificate?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
