Burial of someone who died by suicide
« on: Wednesday 08 October 25 15:14 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to locate a grave for a man called Philip Henry Bone, who died in Thorpe next Norwich in November 1943. He was buried in the parish of Thorpe St Andrew. I believe this is likely to mean he is in the extension cemetery on Yarmouth Road in the town.
FindAGrave looks to be fairly comprehensive for this site and there are no results for him.
His cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Does anybody know what the practice might have been at this time in English churches for burying people who died by suicide?
I'm wondering if it's possible he may not have a headstone for this reason? Would he maybe have been required to be buried in common ground or something like that? I do know there are other reasons there might be no headstone but just theorising.
