Looking for Shea, or O'Shea.
« on: Wednesday 08 October 25 12:57 BST (UK) »
Looking for a birth record for a William Shea.
Mother:  Catherine Brophy
Father:  Edward Shea

I have a Baptisim record for July 1837, in Barna.  See attached.

Conflicting reports about him beinging born in Barda, Azerbaijan.
I don't think that makes sense though, unless he was adopted by William and Catherine.

Thank you kindly.

Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864.

See https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/faq/  What civil records are online?

What conflicting reports? Is that something you found in someone else's family tree?

On his profile page in my family tree on Ancestry It is in the life stories section, but i don't remember putting or writing it.
Unless if i accepted a hint from somebody, would it have come up from their family tree.

Now when i started my family tree it was on MyHeritage, and i connected with the O'Shea/Shea family in Offaly/Tipperary.  Then i did the DNA on there and put it into the tree, and something did come back with a distant connection to Azerbaijan.

My William was born before that, so the only way i can get any kind of record is from the Baptisimal records, thats where the attachment came from.
But then what if they weren't Baptised for one reason or another, you kind of have nothing to go on.
At least you can get the Father's name from the Marriage Certificate, so thats a little bit helpful.

Catholic parents tended to baptise their children as soon after birth as possible. A bigger problem is that not all records survive and of those that do not all are online.

The baptism you have shows Barna as a name for the Parish. There is, apparently, a Barda in Azerbaijan. It sounds as though you, or someone you've copied information from, might have selected the birthplace from a drop down menu without looking too closely.
