Margaretta Rosener ship arrived Wellington 1859
« on: Tuesday 07 October 25 06:50 BST (UK) »
Has anyone come across the Margaretta Rosener ship that arrived in Wellington in about July 1859 from London. Also called the Margaretha Rosener in some instances. A number of references on PapersPast to it, but no passenger lists mentioned mainly just cargo.

Nothing showing up on Familysearch passenger lists either. Nothing on the OurStuff shipping lists either, so probably just carrying cargo.

It also arrived in Auckland in June 1860 from Wellington carrying cattle and a couple of passengers.

An ancestor of mine Henry Frederick Leppien was admitted to Wellington Hospital in October 1879 and the admissions record states that was the ship he arrived on. His ITM for 1865 said he had been in Wellington for six years.

Thanks

Do those early naturalization documents say anything?

Hi

Looks like the spelling may be "M...   R O E S N E R" ?   ( This spelling appears to have many  more "hits" at PapersPast).

   ~  Lu

PS :  Search term used at PapersPast was (simply) " r o e s n e r" (- there are a number of variations on  "Margaretha" ... "Margarita" / "Margaretta"  / "Margeretta" ... etc. )

There is a mention on trove of the Margaretha Rosner leaving London for Wellington in February 1859.
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/161170837/16377891 (page 27, towards the  bottom of the page)

Arrived Wellington 13 July 1859 "with a full cargo" but no mention of passengers

Many thanks everyone, that gives me a lot to go on. Certainly helps to have the correct spelling of the second part. Thought that it might have been a German ship.

Henry's naturalisation records do not mention a ship, only that he was a shoemaker and that he had been in Wellington for three years.

Only mention of passengers so far is some of the Moorhouse and Ford families getting off in Lyttelton.

Looks like it made a few trips out here.
