Hi there. For many years now my research had a relative of mine had died at sea. this was indeed not a surprise as he was a sailor and I accepted it as the case.
His name was Hugo Kingborn around 1854 in Whitehaven, England. His father was William Alkin and his mother was Agnes. on 11/07/1871,age 18 he received his UK apprentice indenture for the merchant navy leaving Liverpool and signing-up for a 4 year period. Early records had his death listed in 1872. However things have recently come to light that suggest he actually left the ship and stayed in Australia. Could this be the case?
Another thing, a total long shot, his grandfather and great uncle (guilders, glass makers and cabinet makers) always marked their work and an impressive 2-stage cabinet with inlay made 1851 was sold years later and apparently is now in Australia. Was this bought by members of a King family whose ancestor was Hugo? Any thoughts or ideas would be interesting.
