BumbleB started a brief discussion on last week’s Diary about people  insisting on following best  before dates. As a matter of interest I see in a daily update email from our local paper today things are changing. All the major supermarkets are discontinuing Best Before dates on many items including fruit and vegetable.  This is in an attempt to to reduce the terrible amount offood waste.

Well that is a good thing ,however we have got used to dates and in a way feel secure with them cetainly for meat and fish but vegetables tell their own story -
Got some sleep and the awful stiffness has relaxed a lot ,am pottering about but holding arm close to my side ,have the red tape bracelet  on still to remind me not to lift my arm but in all probability I shall forget why it is there.

Cool dull day ,trying to organise my Tesco delivery -it seems more complicated nowadays,I did it though Covid - no problems .,but now seems more complicated but it could be me.  ::)

Hope all are safe and warm, and in good spirits, many have  ill health but if we can keep cheerful it is a good thing.

Well off to make the workmen another cup of tea.
So Cheerio folks, best regards to you all and many thanks fir your encouragement .

Good luck Viktoria, great to hear that you are recovering well.

AND

Just realised that I am currently eating Lebkuchen with a BBD of 30 May 2025 - plus I've got another pack with the same date, so I'll eat those as well.  :o

Another tip for you from a friend who recently had a pacemaker fitted.  For the first 6 weeks after the operation she always wore a cardigan or jacket with pockets and kept her left hand in the pocket to remind herself not to raise the arm on that side!

And another one - when speaking on a mobile phone hold it to your right ear, so that it's not close to the pacemaker.  I know that makes it difficult if you want to write something down with your right hand, but it's only for 6 weeks, isn't it?

Now, how are you carrying those cups of tea to the workmen?  Why don't you summon them and let them carry their own cups? :D

Take lots of care.

Better still, unless you are in company and need to keep your conversation private, use your mobile on speaker, your right hand will be free to write and the phone will be well away from the pacemaker.

Many thanks folks,good advice .
The leaflet  I was given says not to lift my left arm above my shoulder for six weeks and no heavy lifting ,pulling or pushing .

Well I have lifted it to about that height ,but no higher.
Making my bed is a challenge but I don’t for the time being waft sheets up high ,just put them on and smooth out but that us quite a big movement but not high.
I can’t take the weight of a cup of tea in my left hand and pulling socks on is a bit of a challenge ,my toes and my right hand don’t work very well together.  ;D
Vert itchy now and tender , wound glued not stapled and almost under my left arm .,an awkward place really ,but it will all pass .
I have a telephone appointment with the heart failure clinic on October 23 rd.

A sunny day here but cool, gardener well on with the ramp and some good ideas re safety etc.

Hope those unwell feel better ,thanks for all the good wishes you are all very kind.
Cheerio.Viktoria.

Thanks L.M.
In myself O.K.but wound site itchy and tender however that is a good reminder re no arm lifting !
Sunny day but cool, gosh my back garden is a mess now but will all be sorted soon.
Son off to head office re the flipping naughty computer ,but I can just do what I feel up to ,I have no need to cook as lots ready in the freezer .

Hope all are alright and are sharing the lovely sunshine we have here.

The gardener showed me photographs of his father’s huge pond , there was one little goldfish
near the surface ,one of mine ——so used to being fed each morning ,I hope they are finding their own food ,his father does put food in but I used to tap the side of the little raised pond( grandchildren!)and they would come immediately , if I was a bit late they would be there already .
Ah well ,the pond is now my herb garden ,such a sunny spot.

Cheerio for now . Thanks again.
Viktoria.

The itchiness of the wound site is supposed to be good, Viktoria, shows it's healing. The cardigan idea works well, but you really shouldn't be making and delivering mugs of tea to your workmen! Is there no one who can actually be with you during the day, to keep you under control, instead of sailing in your wake as you seem to be dashing around as normal? Take care of yourself, pamper yourself, let others wait on you and do things for you, for once....
You've earned it!
